6th Grade Government Day!

Today a team of 6th grade students from the NHR Middle School, Alyssa and Bryan, joined our staff to help run the Library -- and what a great job they did!  They sorted through recent donated materials, watching for books that were damaged and then selecting the ones that would go into the collection.

Then it was break-time for donuts and juice -- naturally!

Our intrepid team then moved on to Cataloging with Pat where they learned how to create records in the LION system and process incoming materials.

Afterwards, they headed up to the Local History & Genealogy Room with Nancy to learn about the materials housed on the Third Floor, including information on Venture Smith, various family genealogies and East Haddam War Records, to name just a few.

Then another break for more donuts . . . :-)

In their final role as library staff, the team was allotted a certain amount of funds to select new books for Grades 6-8 in both fiction and factual areas. When the new titles arrive, we will place a commemorative bookplate in each, citing the 2011 6th Grade Government Day. So our hearty congratulations to both Alyssa and Bryan for their hard work and hoped they enjoyed running the Rathbun!
